Many within this career field assist forward air controllers in tactical air mission planning and operation and provide terminal strike control as interim substitutes for forward air controllers in emergency conditions. They are the life support of the aircraft. This career field will also analyze mishap causes and trends, and assesses risk.

A focus on operational success requires inspections, repairs, maintenance, and servicing of aviation and support equipment SE. These airmen are some of the well trained and highly organized people in the military. These technicians monitor status of missiles, UAVs, boosters, payloads, subsystems, and support equipment. They inspect, align, troubleshoot, and repair to PMEL standards. They plan and schedule aerospace vehicle maintenance and utilization requirements and develop plans and establish production schedules to meet mission requirements.

The types of systems are aerospace vehicles, AGE, munitions, missiles, space systems, and associated support systems through maintenance phases. Updates or uses data vocabularies and metadata catalog, enabling data to be accessed, tagged, and searched regardless of physical location, media, source, owner, or other defining characteristics.

Mission Support specialists make sure the military manning requirements are fulfilled and up to date with the necessary training and work support. This career field assists doctors, nurses, and hospital administration with their duties and is the backbone of the military medical system.

These are the health care professionals who provide oral and dental care for all members on base. Paralegals are JAG assistants who help the lawyers do their jobs. They process commitments and obligations, payments, and collections as well as serves as financial advisor to commanders and resource managers. Courses and degree programs may be academic or technical and can be taken from two- or four-year institutions on base, off base or by correspondence.

These benefits may be used for undergraduate and graduate degree programs, vocational and technical training, tutorial assistance, books, supplies and monthly housing. Generally, benefits are payable for 15 years following release from active duty and may be transferred to spouses or dependent children.

Eligible, enlisted Airmen may receive up to 36 months of benefits for education and training opportunities outside of the Air Force. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship or on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following release from active duty.

If individuals are selected for involuntary re-training, and they refuse to gain the service-retainability needed in order to re-train, they are projected for discharge. Air Force enlisted personnel who are disqualified from their current AFSC, or disqualified during a training program are placed into one or two categories: disqualified for cause, or disqualified for reasons beyond their control. Airmen are categorized as disqualified for cause when they no longer meet the requirements for any of their awarded AFSCs, and the basis for withdrawing the AFSC is for conditions or actions over which the airman had control.

Examples of disqualification for cause include loss of security clearance due to misconduct, drug or alcohol involvement, failure to progress in training, substandard duty performance, or other acts that lead to AFSC withdrawal or training school failure. For those in training status, the technical training squadron commander recommends separation or administrative action for airmen eliminated for reasons within their control.

Re-trainees who are removed from training for misconduct are not considered for re-training. In such cases, the commander returns the airman to the organization for action or processes discharge action.

If selected for re-training, airmen are re-trained into an AFSC that they 1 are qualified for, 2 have an available class-start date within days, and 3 have a course-length of no longer than eight weeks 40 academic days. Airmen are categorized as disqualified not for cause who no longer meet the specialty qualifications for any of their awarded AFSCs, and the basis for withdrawing AFSC is for conditions or actions over which the airman had no control.

Airmen disqualified not for cause may apply for separation under miscellaneous reasons in lieu of re-training. Airmen must apply for AFSCs for which they meet all requirements and have a class starting within days. Airmen are encouraged to list, as a minimum, three AFSC choices. Airmen between the 24th and 38th months of service for a four-year enlistee 48th and 62nd for a six-year enlistee will apply using their CAREERS option, provided the airman is recommended for reenlistment.
